Curly Hair and Afros

This journey of natural hair has been on of a lifetime… literally. When I was younger, I used to get perms to try to manage my curly kinky hair. I would let it grow to a certain length and then cut it shorter but it wasn’t until I was an adult that I understood why I did that. As an experiment, I allowed my hair to grow the longest it’s every grown in my life. The longer it grew, the harder it was to manage because my curls turned into knots on  my head.

I then put a relaxer in my hair like a texturizer. How I did it was not to separate the hair, I just glob in the relaxer everywhere and let it sit for 3 to 5 minutes. I didn’t comb my natural hair until afterwards. It was then I realized that for women with long natural hair, relaxers work as well. I had lost my body and volume in that process but I was able to comb through my hair.

In one decision, I went from hair down my back to a short Afro. This is the continuation of my journey of natural beauty. Let’s see where it takes us!
